About Us
Since 2003, Nickie and Bob Solger have quietly built The Energy Savings Store (TESS) into the largest solar power and wind energy firm in the region, with locations in St. Louis, MO, and a new solar and wind showroom in Lenexa, KS.
We design, install and maintain commercial and residential solar power and wind energy systems. As a licensed general contractor, TESS has worked with many businesses, governments and schools, including:
Under Nickie and Bob's direction, TESS has completed almost 100 installations across Missouri, Kansas and Illinois - more installations than any other business of its kind in the area! In addition, consulting services provide assistance to architects and engineering firms designing projects for their own clients.
Distribution Services
The Energy Savings Store now offers solar power and wind energy distribution services to other small businesses just starting out, or to established contractors wanting to expand their business into this rapidly growing industry. “Collaborating with others is very important to us,” says Susan Brown, V.P. of Sales and Marketing, “We want to ensure that every renewable job is designed and installed to the highest standards.” That’s why Bob is a founding board member of the Missouri Solar Energy Industry Association.
Keeping up with changing technology is critical, as is maintaining strong relationships with manufacturers. "Attending industry conferences is essential in our rapidly evolving business,” says Bob, “ The relationships we develop with manufacturers enable us to buy direct, keep prices low, provide the latest technology, and expand our own distribution capabilities."
Education and Workshops
Education is another key. The new solar energy and wind power showroom in Lenexa now hosts classes for consumers and businesses to be more informed purchasers of renewable energy. Workshops by nationaly known renewable energy experts, like Dan Chiras of The Evergreen Institute, will also be scheduled.
Our people
“Hiring experienced people can be difficult in a new industry like ours,” says Bob. “We have been fortunate to find great people like our Director of Field Operations – he owned a solar business in the 1980s.” The company also recently hired Ryan Gardner as the new Director of Sales. Ryan has extensive solar experience from the California market. Jesse Flaschsbart, one of our Staff Engineers, passed the exam given by the North American Board of Certified Energy Practioners and is the first KC Metro area Certified Solar PV Installer (Jesse's Certification is listed under Oregon - his home state).
We are always interested in great people to join the team. See our Careers page for more information on the open positions.
Community
“Our association with area organizations have been a plus for our business, and we like being involved with the community” says Susan. She serves on the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Environment Committee, the Energy Policy Task Force, and TESS is a Technical Assistance Partner for Climate Protection Partnership participants.
Experience, integrity and professionalism define The Energy Savings Store. We can help you or your business protect against fluctuations in energy costs by safely investing in renewable energy.
